Officials in Sacramento County are working a shooting that took place on April 18 2026 at Howe Park in Sacramento at the moment officers were dissolving a large unauthorized gathering of several hundred people.
How It Started
Deputies were first dispatched to the Arden-Arcade park at approximately 6:30 PM on April 18 after obtaining information of people potentially armed with concealed firearms. Soon after, a second call came in concerning a potential altercation unfolding at Howe Park.
Aerial units conducted an aerial sweep but came back with no confirmation of a fight. Nevertheless, it was apparent that a massive group had congregated at Howe Park without any permit or approval.
The Moment Gunfire Erupted
Deputies worked to disperse the crowd by setting up around the park's perimeter and announcing over their public address systems ordering attendees to clear out. Roughly 15 minutes were allotted for the gathering to break up.
It was during this dispersal that an estimated 20 to 25 shots were fired. The shots triggered a stampede. Deputies quickly moved to looking for those injured.
Four Victims Hospitalized
When the dust settled, four victims were discovered with shooting injuries. The four individuals — comprising three men and one woman each reported to be in their early to late twenties — were rushed to local Sacramento hospitals. Hospital staff confirmed that two had critical injury classifications, one person had injuries of a moderate nature, and one suffered minor injuries. As of last report, no fatalities were reported and all four were stable.
Sacramento Metro Fire arrived on scene and helped care for those who had been shot at the park.
Physical Evidence
The primary shooting scene appears to have happened on the Cottage Way corridor next to the local Home Depot located at the 2200 block of Howe Ave. Investigators located additional spent rounds scattered along Cottage Way. Bullet holes were discovered in the metal fencing alongside the nearby Home Depot. The physical evidence showed that one of the gunmen had been sending rounds south from Cottage Way toward the Home Depot building and parking lot. That Home Depot location was secured under a brief lockdown while the scene was active. Crime scene personnel kept processing evidence for hours.
Arrests Made
Reports confirmed through law enforcement radio communications click here established that a suspect Kia was intercepted in nearby Solano County. Four occupants were in the vehicle at the time of the stop. Deputies were sent to retrieve the detainees to transport the detainees for further questioning. Video that was reviewed confirmed that the shooting involved two separate gunmen.
